My 5 month old son hasn't laughed yet, and I have talked to other moms and their babies laughed as early as 12 weeks to 4 months. I havent heard of any being this late. Is this normal?

  • He might be able to laugh, but just hasn't had the opportunity? I don't know.

  • If your worried then talk to your doctor. He might just not have a sense of humor. I wouldnt worry, dont rate him to other babies.

  • I would try tickling... that's what really got my son laughing at first (and still does)... he thinks it's funny when we "munch" on him. Nibble his neck and tummy or feet... he cracks up every time.

  • Hey I was once worried like you, my son started smiling when he was going to be 6 mos and it was so weird cause all the babies his age where laughing even my daughter started smiling at 2 weeks but he was late in almost everything he started sitting up at 8 mos and crawling at 10 mos walking at almost 15 mos, and still he does laugh a lot but it's like he doesn't like to do it he holds his cheeks down with his hands so he won't laugh at funny things he's 2 1/2 now and even tho I tell him it's ok to laugh he does that. don't worry about it I'm sure that's just his personality showing there.

  • My son isn't much of a laugher either. I guess he's more series than other kids. Your son probably enjoys learning more than being entertained?? If you're really concerned, talk to your doctor. But chances are he's simply enjoying trying to figure out how the world works.

  • To be on the safe side, ask your doctor. But if it makes you feel better, my twins didn't laugh a lot till around a year and a 1/2.They were very serious babies. At 4 years old, they still don't laugh often. My other two "get" humor, and they don't.
