  • The Omaha Zoo is wonderful!! http://www.omahazoo.com/ . May would be a great time to go.

I haven't seen many snakes and I have lived in Iowa all my whole life. If you're hiking in the woods or walking through the ditches maybe you would see one. Most are harmless. The common wildlife that you might see are squirrels, deer, raccoon, rabbits and opossums. Hopefully alive and not roadkill. http://www.iowadnr.gov/education/wldresbs.html

Tornados are scary and are around most often in the spring. Watch the weather daily on the news or online. Basements are best for shelter if you know one is coming. It's rare though...I've never seen one, but I do experience tornado warnings each year.

Have a good time in western Iowa!!
