  • No. He has no experience and doesn't bother to surround himself with people that really know what is going on and could offer sound advice. He proved his lack of intelligence regarding military issues when within a month of taking office he told the military to trim at least 10% of their budget. We cannot afford the consequences of gutting our military. Clinton did it (how do you think he cleared up that deficit) and set us up for 9/11.

You cannont tell the people whose main object is to see you dead "we won" and expect them to play nice.

It is sad when the military thinks he is a joke.

  • Any plan of Obama's is doomed to fail. He is inexperienced and has no idea what he is doing.

You do know that the military cuts Clinton is always blamed for started under Bush 1? Besides I thought it was the great Republican Congress Clinton had that reduced the deficit. At least that is what I have been told by many, many Reps.

  • A war-devastated region MUST get rebuilt to have stability. If anyone watched Tom Hanks' movie "Charlie Wilson's War" you will recall that Rep. Wilson was livid with the politicians who refused to help rebuild schools, hospitals and towns after the US helped the Afghanis repel the USSR's brutal and destructive invasion.

The short-sighted, self-serving politicians slammed the door on further help although Charlie Wilson clearly foresaw that Afghanistan was too demolished to rebuild itself. So the Taliban moved into the vacuum and set up a regime very similar to gangsters in a Detroit slum - guns and intimidation instead of farming and families.

Bergen's article spotlights this fact of life: instability is bred by desperation, so address the desperation as well as the parasites who oppress the desperate. (For this reason we should NOT leaving Iraq still so UNbuilt. But today, as in '93, politicians don't care.
