Can you rent a camera?

I have a Nikon D40, which is a pretty nice camera, but I'd like to try something else without having to buy it! Any idea if there are any places that do camera rentals?

  • Buying and returning a camera from Walmart is not a good idea. They can't resell it as a new item. Do you know what happens with all the returns they get? They sell them by the truckload to people who then turn around and sell them at flea markets. The point is that they offset the cost of returns (just like they do stolen items) by charging higher prices. So you are not really getting any money back with a return because you then spend more money on the things you use everyday.

Yes there are places where you can rent cameras and lenses. Pros do it all the time. Some cameras and lenses cost between $6000 and $15,000. Rather than pay that kind of money for a lens you only need very rarely, you can rent them. You should google "camera rental (your city)" and see what comes up. If you live in a smaller community, you might try the nearest city.
