  • The term nuclear family is used to distinguish a family group consisting of most commonly, a father and mother and their children, from what is known as an extended family.

  • Your nuclear family is your immediate family members, not extended family members. Dad, Mom, kids (and your pets of course, LOL).

  • I was taught that it means that it is a family in which there is a Dad, Mom and their biological children. If their is an adoption, it is an adoptive family. There is also blended, single parent, etc.
