Dd still has diarrhea

She hasn't had anything new for a while and she has had diarrhea since yesterday morning. How long do these tummy bugs usually last? I have heard of the Brat diet, but I don't have any rice or applesauce. We thought it was gone and then right after dh left for work . . . bam . . shitsplosion. I mixed some formula with same mashed bananas. She ate some, but she is not a banana fan. She is happy, though and still drinking her bottles fine. Should I not feed her anything but the bananas and formula until dh gets home with some rice and applesauce? I was thinking she probably needs more fluid anyway. When I say just give her bananas and formula, I mean, instead of her regular dinner with meat and vegetables.

If your baby is already big enough to be taking solid foods, then carrots, rice cereal, bananas, potatoes, and applesauce can help slow down the stools. Avoid fruit juices, peas, pears, peaches, plums, prunes and apricots until the stools are back to normal, which should be within a week or so.

If your baby is breast-fed, don't stop

If your baby is formula-fed, you might want to switch to a soy-based formula while the diarrhea lasts. A soy formula containing fiber (Isomil DF) can be even more effective at slowing down the stools

  • I agree with everything but the carrots. Anything with fiber is going to make her gassy and poop more. Make sure from now on you have the applesauce and rice as a staple in the house because ya never know when this will happen. Also push fluids like crazy, water formula down more than usual because she can get dehydrted so easily, poor lil lamb hope she feels better soon.
