  • Babies with DS tend to have low muscle tone, so reach physical milestones a bit later.
You might look into getting evaluated for early intervention services in your area. their services are FREE and they come to your home so baby is in his own surroundings. I think all you have to do is call the EI office and ask for an eval, no doctor referral needed.

there are also some good books:
Gross Motor Skills with Downs Syndrome, (A guide for parents and professionals) by Patrica C. Winders P.T.

And Fine Motor Skills with Downs Syndrome by Maryanne Bruni OT(C)

  • Give it time... my son, even without down syndrome, had troubles holding up his head at that age. Just allow some times for it every day and he will start to hold his head up more (my son would cry about it for the longest time and then all of a sudden like it and started holing up his head)
And with down syndrome it might take him a bit longer to do it because children with downs tend to have lower muscle tone and he might be a little more floppy and need more work (or he might not, you every baby is different)
