Can I give pedialyte to a 9 month old?

She won't drink it by itself either, so can I mix it with her formula?

  • She can have straight pedialyte.

  • I also had her grandparents bring me some rice, so I will make some of that for her also. She has diarrhea.

  • I never heard of mixing it, but definitely give it to her if she is getting dehydrated and is either throwing up or having diahrreah.

  • I wuldnt do the rice right now if she is having diahrreah, cause it will fill her up faster and she might refuse some of the fluids if she already has a full tummy.

  • I don't know about mixing it with formula, but we gave it to our babies with a syringe a little at a time. White grape juice and banans are also good for diarrhea.

  • Okay, I will wait on the rice and give her some pedialyte with a syringe . . I never even thought of that. I have a million syringes that I have never used.

  • Ok, yeah I'm giving it to her via a syringe. I am not getting in much at a time, but I will just give her some every few minutes. How much should I give? As much as I can?

  • Pedialyte will make the diarrhea worse because of the sugar. If she has been eating rice cereal, give that to her...but mainly stick with her formula or breast milk.

Depending on what foods you've already given her...BRAT. Banana, rice, applesauce and toast. Don't give her anything new, though.

  • But to answer your question..yes, you "can" give it. I wouldn't mix it with formula though.
