Why is toothpaste called paste? Why not tooth cleaner?

  • There used to be a tooth cleaner that was a powder. So probably tooth paste was named that to show the difference between tooth powder and tooth paste.

  • Because is used to be primarily baking soda and when you added water it created a paste.
