  • I gave up naps at 3 yo and so did my son. Even now, we just don't need as much sleep as other people. (Though that's changing quickly for me!) If he's not cranky and sleeps through the night, your son may not need the nap. (Sorry. I know that hurt.) Even if my "night owl/vampire" NEEDS to sleep, like if he's sick, he really won't. During those times, I've had him lie down with my meditation music on and that did the trick! Best wishes!

  • Nothing, my son stopped napping at 2 yrs old. Just have him take a rest, for an hour or so. Have him lay down on the couch and watch a movie. Not all kids need naps. Sometimes just resting and having downtime works the same if not better than a nap.

  • Even though my 2.5 year old daughter doesn't take naps every day, I still put her in her room during her nap time. There's nothing I can do to force her to nap (believe me, that was a tough one to swallow - the nap decline started at about 20 months) but I do make her room dark, I have a white noise machine in her room (or a humidifier in the winter) and I play soft music (Enya or instrumental). I've considered turning on a movie for her during naptime, but I think it would keep her up on the days she would nap. She still naps 3-4 times a week.

A PP noted that if she's not waking up in the night or melting, she's probably okay. If she IS NOT handling no naps well, I suggest an extremely early bedtime for a few nights to get her caught up on sleep. I mean, like 5:30-6 p.m. You might see naps "re-set" after that.

    Good luck!

  • My oldest stopped taking naps at 2. I still made her stay in her room for an hour for "quiet time" because she had younger siblings that needed to nap and I needed a break. Until she was 2 1/2 she would still fall asleep maybe once or twice a week during quiet time. By 2 1/2 she was pretty much done with them. She's almost 9 now and the only time I've seen her nap in the last 6 years is when she is sick (like twice a year).

  • Really? Naps end at 2yrs old, maybe that's why my LO refuses 2 nap I thought naps ended @ 5 or 6yrs old, how sad no more "me" time during the day :(

  • I just make my kid lay down and watch his fave movie. Thats if we'd had a busy day. If we've had an indoor day he doesn't really nap cause he hasn't really done much.
