how do i disipline my one year old?

my daughter just turned one... i tried to sit her down on the steps but she just cries hestirically and does sit i don't think she understands it punishment

  • I would make sure that whenever you correct her that you look her directly in her eyes and tell her no, then re-direct her and tell her what the correct behavior should be (i.e. mommy does not like you hitting, she likes hugs and kisses). There are some good discipline books for parents as well as cute books to read to your child to help them understand good/bad behavior.

  • i guess it depends on what she did to get into trouble time outs are good especially when she starts to get older but if your gonna use them right now you should really only put them in time out for as long as their age or else the point you try to make will be lost in the extended time... ex 1yr=1min timeout, 7yr=7 min timeout. and so on... but like i said it depends on the things they do... Good luck

  • No child is going to understand punishment in the beginning. Be consistent with the time outs and she will understand it.

    She should be upset when being disciplined. Be calm and use short phrases, "time out! No throwing toys!"
