I know what it means when people say God bless..(no offense intended)

But when I see the reply "blessed be" what?
I tried breaking down the words blessed and then be.
Still don't get it. Could someone explain what it means and how it means it by the saying. Who are you calling blessed? Why after that say be?

  • It means be blessed (by life, the universe, the gods, or whatever you believe in). It is often used by Neopagans. Because they are reconstructing ancient religions they sometimes like to use older modes of speech. Blessed be is a way of indicating to others you are Pagan, conveying well wishes without the god Jehovah being involved & feeling connected to the past.

  • it is a pretty way of saying be blessed, but not saying by whom. since we don't all have the same God I think it is a very nice way of wishing someone a "blessed" day, life, time, whichever.
