  • Whether a full bath is okay with a cord stump or not is really a matter of which ped/dr/nurse you talk to. Some of them say it's fine to begin immersing the baby from Day 1... others say to wait until the cord falls off. So you have half the people doing one and half the people doing the other, and no one has any problem. Go with your gut; I think it's fine if you want to give your baby a full bath at this point (also note that newborns don't need daily baths.) Just make sure that the area is allowed to completely air dry!
The main reason to not get the cord stump wet is that the more often it's wet, the longer it takes to separate from the baby, which is not really a concern for you at this point.

  • That happened to us and the pediatrician just said to go for a real bath since it was such a small amount. It came off a week or so later.

  • i have a baby bath for my daughter that has another seat for her to lay in inside of the bath. since day one i would have her sit in the bath and put water in the bath but not to wear it would touch her belly button. i never just laid her down and used a wet washcloth... and now that her belly button is off i just fill pu the bath a little more.

but her belly button did the same thing part of it stayed on and her ped said to give her a normal bath and it will be okay because it was such a little piece left on. we did that and no infection or anything.
