  • In my opinion - bad. Stripping the membranes can force bacteria into the uterus. Your membranes are in place for a reason. Stripping the membranes will not always lead to induction (if it doesn't then it's because your body is making an effort to keep things in place - trust it) and in the event of an infection, can cause some nasty complications for you and the baby. IMHO a doctor who will do this should not be trusted. There is never a case where the benefits outweigh the risks. ESPECIALLY prior to 42 weeks. Keep in mind that full term is from 38-42 weeks. Also keep in mind that those weeks start ticking starting the FIRST DAY of your last period. So when you break it down, a 38 week baby is really only 36 weeks old. If you haven't gone into labor on your own then it's because the baby isn't ready to be born. The end of the pregnancy sucks, I know, but think of how far you've come and think of who is relying on your judgment
