  • As I understand it, they exercise their diaphram and intercostals by expanding to take in ambiatic fluid and contracting to expell the fluid. They make all kinds of faces and movements. To actually "cry", air has to pass over the vocal cords. They practice what they are going to do just as soon as their little behinds emerge into the bright, shiny world which is yell their little butts off!
