Should America have a National Language"

Should all businesses be required to have at least some English-speaking employees if they serve the general public?

  • If you are going to live and work in America then you should be required to speak English.

  • it might not be a bad idea since most people speak English any way. but I think the states that have more Spanish speaking people should be Spanish states, much like how part of Canada speaks English and the other part speaks mostly French. I foresee tons of fun with that plan.

  • This will be a totally unpopular answer, I'm sure, but I believe that if you are going to work in America, knowing English should be a requirement. If we lived in Mexico, France, Germany, China, or any other country, we would be expected to speak the native language there in order to do business. It should be no different here, IMHO.

  • no, Grace, English is only the Majority language, not official. There have been state laws introduced to pass English as the official language, but they have always been shot down by our idiots in politics.

Difference between other countries is that they speak more then 1 language. You will not have problem in Europe finding a job when you speak English. People in Europe don't see a problem speaking or learning other language .
