Chinese, Russian cyberspies hack into our power grid...

and leave behind software programs that can be used to disrupt the system. Is this in their minds insurance to keep us from going to war with them at some point? Why would they do this do you think?

  • everyone should be stocked or stocking up on non-perishables, and learn how to build a fire...to boil your drinking/cleaning water and cook over! Pasta and canned veggies are cheap, and will keep your alive!

third world countries survive without electricity by growing and hunting their own food--those survivors among us, would manage, the rest of the population would die off--survival of the fittest, fastest and smartest--i think america could benefit from a thorough "cleaning!" lol

do you honestly think if the usa was without power for more than 10 days that the techno-geeks would rise up and feverishly try to restore power? they'd be rich selling their skills to the highest bidder/barterer! lol

  • China and Russia are not our friends. They will team up with the terrorists eventually to try and bring us down. Obama will do nothing about it either. He is too busy making sure the world likes us. Nothing he can do to make that happen. They hate us because even in our terrible economic state our citizens live better than theirs do. Scary time to have a pacifist Liberal in office.

  • Honestly, I think it is pretty smart. That is one way to bring everything we do to a halt...we couldn't even get on the internet and complain about it! Amazing...lol

  • Not funny at all. Anyone who is not worried about this has to be so nieve. It would be so easy for Russia or china to use this against us or to sell the information to other countries who really hate us. It may just be a precautionary thing on their part but it is wrong and it is obviously a threat to America

  • I wonder how some people would survive if our power grid was brought down. Do some people realize how serious it would be? Some things I have read about being possible: computer-controlled prison doors automatically unlock releasing loads of dangerous criminals, ATM machines no longer working and you can't withraw your money at the bank, patients in hospitals die, probably loads more thigns we're not thinking about.

  • April,

I wouldn't worry about things like prisons and hospitals failing...they have emergency fuel operated generator systems that automatically kick in when the power goes out. It would buy them some time to stabilize the situation.

As for the rest....it would be a good idea to have your guns and ammo at the ready!

  • Thankfully we could live and work "off the grid" if we had to, we've had major power failure for up to 10 days (once 17 days) in the middle of several winters and done just fine. That said that's just us, individually. If the whole or major parts of the entire country were powerless I think we would all be in a world of hurt. Once communications went down, shipping and hauling would fail, food would no longer be transported to grocery stores, city water supply stations would fail, there would be no water, or what did come through the pipes would be unsafe to drink. I wouldn't be a problem that could be fixed quickly. Unfortunately people would rise up in anarchy and looting and lawlessness would be pandemic. (Especially when you city people couldn't get formula for your babies, understandably.)

  • This is nothing new, the Chinese hacked into the pentagon a couple of years ago. China is patient and wants to rule the world. If they wanted to take us down now they would just call in our debt but they need us to buy their crappy products. Russia is pretty broke right now from what I understand but they are not to be trusted either.

What amo? You can barely find it anymore. I'm learning how to shoot as a 10th wedding anniversary gift for DH and we had a hard time finding it. I hear it's not as bad as some states.

We could go a while without power and still be ok. We have a generator and alternative ways to cook food.

  • We would be ok too because we have our guns if obama doesn't outlaw them?

This country would become like the show Jericho.
