While YOU may have grown up in a socialist country, life-long American citizens have not, and do not understand it's implications, which is why we're heading down this road with Obama leading the way. It sounds good in theory, but it will be quite a shock to many when it becomes reality--but by then it will be too late.

You also grew up in a socialist country, not having anything to compare it to. Americans enjoy their capitalism, conveniences, and freedoms...they have no idea what it is really like to be socialist (actually, neither do I first hand), but from what I've read and understand, it ain't gonna be pretty.

Why are you here in America if socialism isn't so bad?

  • Nope, still don't think that. Considering the Declaration of Independence in no more than a piece of paper, legally speaking, there is nothing here that screams socialism. The declaration of Independence is simply a charter of freedom, it is not a legally binding document. The Constitution is a legally binding document and it is still in force, no matter what you conspiracy "He's a socialist!!! Run for the hills" theorists think.

Socialism has absolutely nothing to do why I live in U.S now.

Answer by Anonymous at 2:42 PM on Apr. 8, 2009

  • ...and legally binding documents CAN be altered....via AMENDMENTS! Pelosi has already said that the Constitution is "outdated" and needs to be re-written! God help us all if she and Obama are able to find a backhanded way around it, while their supporters keep their heads in the sand.

  • LoriKeet... please do your research. Do you even know how difficult it is to change the Constitution??? First 2/3 of BOTH houses of Congress vote to propose an amendment. 3/4 of state legislatures have to approve it!

It is interesting to note that at no point does the President have a role in the formal amendment process (though he would be free to make his opinion known). He cannot veto an amendment proposal, nor a ratification. This point is clear in Article 5, and was reaffirmed by the Supreme Court in Hollingsworth v Virginia (3 US 378 [1798]): "The negative of the President applies only to the ordinary cases of legislation: He has nothing to do with the proposition, or adoption, of amendments to the Constitution." (

    Much of a conspiracy theorist???

So does Palin. She thinks that she can change the Constitution of Alaska has she pleases. I'm glad her own party is stepping in.
