Just Curious. I'm Scared! NO BASHING PLZ

Im on 50mg of zoloft which my doc says is the best meds for anxiety to take while prego. She says if i get off it it will be worse for the baby but there is a 1,000 risk of PPHN which has a 40 percent mortality rate. She said it would endanger the baby more to stop and i shouldnt worry many women take it. Im 18 weeks and starting to buy things and all of a sudden i just got really scared. Anyone else taken this? What do you think?

  • im not on meds but if your dr is saying its better for you to take them then your fine. i've known a couple of girls who smoked so much when they were first prego that the dr told them to continue to smoke just cut back..

i think the reason for a dr to keep you on anything that normally isnt good for the baby is cause at a certain point the baby relies on it too..

just try to take it easy and not stress yourself out :D

  • I have taken it while i was preggo, i was on alittle over 200mg a day... i was fine the whole time i was preggo, they just told me that I went into labor 2 weeks early from the meds (but that was because i was to active and didnt listen to the doc and stay in bed)

  • yeah i took 200 mg's a day and it pretty much saved my life. my doctor told me that the risk of PPHN in babies whose mothers took zoloft in pregnancy is 4 in 1000 and mothers who took nothing is 2 in 1000.

  • I'm not on meds, but if your Dr wants you to keep taking it, keep taking it. Anxiety is worse for the baby than that 1 in 1000 chance of something happening. If you can't control your emotions, you can't control your stress, and that can be really bad for your little one. Your Dr wouldn't recommend that you do something that would hurt your child.

  • I'm a firm believer in educating yourself on the risks and benefits of any treatment. Here are a couple good links to read through. Discuss anything you find w/ your doctor, I find it's helpful to take notes and bring them in.

You and your doctor should have a good discussion about the options available to you. Maybe there is another AD drug that is safer during pregnancy? Do your research before switching though.
