Formula Milk or Fresh Milk?

Hi! Our baby's pedia advised us that he may drink fresh milk starting 1 yr. old instead of his old formula one. Which do you think is better or more beneficial? ...hmm..probably in terms of nutrients?

  • Whole organic milk or 2% depending on your child's need.

  • It depends on how much food he's eating and how balanced his diet is.

If he's getting his nutrition from food (real food, not baby food) then go to milk, there's no need for formula. If he's not eating table foods yet for his daily nutrition, then stick to formula until he is.

That's what our pediatrician had us do, and after thinking about it, I have to agree with his opinion.

  • organic whole milk or 2% with a good healthy diet. Or what ever you can get your 1 yr. old to drink. Your toddler will be getting all of his nutrients from the foods in which you give he/she. The whole milk has a good supply of vitamin D, calcium, and most importantly the fat your toddler's brain needs. Why spend more money on formula? You're going to want to take he/she of of formula at some point in time so I suggest you start trying now. Be patient because not all toddlers like milk to start off with. My son didn't , it took him 2 months to adjust. I started out by putting 1 oz. of milk and the rest of a sippy cup with water. After a couple of weeks I started adding more and more each week and now he is a milk drinker. I don't believe that it has to be cows milk though, you can use goats milk, enriched soy milk(although this doesn't have a lot of fat so you'd still want to supplement with lots of yogurt and cheeses).

  • whole milk is best for babies, they dont just recomed it for the heck of it, baby needs the fat in it for brain development, after 2 you can talk to doc about giong to 2%

  • Remember that formula is a whole food replacement. Milk is just a food. You can survive on formula alone - not milk alone. So, assess the rest of his diet. You can do half and half if you want, or add a multivitamin.
