Are you an "as much as you want" mom or a rationer on Holidays that include candy?

Do you let your kids dig into their Easter baskets with gusto and eat until their little hearts are content? Or do you give them a set amount they can have?

  • I usually let my ds have a little more than usual because he gets 3 Easter bunny visits. LOL! He gets one basket with goodies and candy from us and eats a few pieces, he's 7 so he knows when to stop so he doesn't eat until he gets sick, he also gets a basket or just some gifts from my mom, she usually doesn't give much if any candy, and then his Grannie, my MIL gets him a basket or just goodies which include candy. She usually gives the non name brand candy, no offense meant to her or that kind of candy, but ds just doesn't like that kind as well as the name brand candy, so he doesn't eat too much at her house. Then tomorrow we'll go back to the 2 piece a day rule, depending on the size or portion of the candy. Sometimes he sneaks a few pieces when we're not looking, but he never eats enough to make him sick or not hungry for meals. Easter is only once a year & ds is 7 so we probably don't have many more "believing" years.

  • i give a certain amount, shes only 3 now so she would just eat it all day and make herself sick. i think when she gets older i'll probably let her dig in but right now she can't figure out when to stop so i have to do it for her.

  • My kids have a two piece limit. and they know it. They don't even ask for more at this point. Halloween, too.

  • They get a certain amount each day. they have snuck candy and then when dinner time comes they don't want to eat. I make them eat their dinner even if it mean they get sick, they will learn to not eat so much candy next time.

  • Right now she's only 2 so I have to ration it or that's all she would eat and nobody wants a sugary toddler. Probably when she's older though and can recognize when to stop I'll let her eat her fill. Then again who knows how I will feel then lol.

  • We have a 2 limit rule too. To make this easier to stick to, we cont get them LOTS of candy! Why do that to a kid...give them tons of candy, and then say, sorry, you can only have a piece or two. Kids are kids, and that is not fair to do to them.

Also, they have it at snack time, that way they are still able to eat their meals. For instance, we did not hunt for Easter eggs until snack time so they could have their candy. They got their baskets early this morning, but they just had their goodies in it, no candy.

  • I let her eat her little heart out, she will eat 3-4 pieces and be done.

  • Today I am letting them eat what ever they want because tomorrow the answer will be NO. LOL They didn't get much candy anyway, but I usually don't let them have any.

  • I let mine eat as much as he wants, and it's not like he eats so much he makes himself sick. He knows when he's had enough. I'm very easy going. Besides, Easter and Halloween only come once a year.

  • They've had more than they are usually allowed...but their snack this afternoon was fruit! They weren't happy with me, but I see puke in the future if they eat too much more junk! LOL
