  • Our daughter is 7 months with 2 bottom teeth and she eats table food or gerber graduates. If your baby seems bored with stage 2 then move on. If they are eating it well without choking and gagging a lot then try a jar to see how they do.

  • IMO, if they are ready for 3rd stage foods just go with what you are eating and skip that crap all together.

  • I agree with anon. but when did you start them on table food? mine is doing ok with the 2nd foods, but how do you know when to take that chance on them swallowing pieces of food?

  • I agree with Anon... the stage 3 foods are gross. We tried Pasta primavera and my daughter threw up... I wondered why, then I smelled and tasted it. Yuck! Small bites of soft food... Avocado, ripe pear, cheerios, gerber puffs, grapes with NO SKINS and cut in 4ths, small bits of bread, tofu, soft cooked vegetables... these are fine by 7 months for sure, teeth or no teeth.

  • Start with the puffs because they really dissolve in the mouth... if your baby is making chewing motions, s/he should be ok. Just watch closely to see how your baby handles the food before swallowing. We were super careful and then we realized our 7 month old was gumming like crazy... just keep the bites small and never leave baby unattended while eating. If s/he doesn't really move the food around or do anything with it, s/he probably isn't ready yet.

  • I started table food around 7-8 months for my boys. I did a few jars of baby food but once they were ready for the bigger foods I just let them eat what we eat. We eat alot of rice (my husband is from asia) so I would mash the rice, whatever veggie we were eating again mash it down and then from about 10months I would add food.

I have a 4 month old he will start soon. my other two didn't really like baby food (ANY of it) so we'll see how long he does with the baby food. I'll start him on the cereal next month because he shows interest in food...but still doesn't like to eat it yet.

  • We started giving finger and table foods at 6 months. Our pediatrician recommended against stage 3 foods and going right to table foods.

  • my son did 3rd foods for about a day lol. he was like 7 months old. He wanted what we were eating so I would give him very small bits of what we were eating.
