How do you potty train a toddler that only pees when he sleeps?

i'm serious. he wakes up wet, he's dry all morning, even after breakfast and lunch, then goes down for his nap, is wet when he wakes up, and then he's dry the rest of the evening. he only pees when he sleeps! and no, i don't mean just a little bit, he soaks the bed, so he's not dehydrated. he's not allowed anything to drink after 6:30, which is dinner, cuz his bedtime is at 8. any advice?

  • I'm not sure I understand, are you potty training already, and he holds his bladder until he gets a diaper at naptime/bedtime, or is his diaper just dry until then? In either case, it sounds like he'll be pretty easy to train, because he already knows how to hold it, which is half the battle. If you're going to start training (assuming you haven't already), offer extra fluids. I don't give juice, but I did make an exception for potty training days... offered extra diluted juice, extra milk, whatever she'd take... Throw away the diapers, put him in underwear (no pants), put the potty in the room where he's playing, and if he starts to pee, rush him to the potty so he finishes there. Give him a reward any time pee makes it in the potty. We trained our daughter at 19 months with this method. We still did a diaper at naptime/bedtime. Now, 3 months later, she wakes up dry from naps so we keep her in undies then, too.
