Apple Storage

My aunt and I were just watching a show and they were talking about fruit and veggie storage. Now they say that apples can stay on your counter for 5 days at home then need to be in the fridge. Why? Can anyone explain this as we always store on the counter and never had a problem.

Thanks

  • Well, I know that with some foods, like fruits, if You keep them out they decompose faster. Thats what refrigerators are for, they help preserve food. It depends what you want, for examples tomatos taste better if not in fridge, but keep better in the fridge.
