Ok so I have to write a paper on technological advances in human engineering. But I am at a lost. Can you think of anything scientists have done or are trying to do to help genetics in making the perfect child for a couple?

Right now, it's limited to screening embryos for known genetic defects - usually in couples with a family history of a fatal defect - and for sex selection. I don't know of any current or planned experiments in genetic manipulation of embryos... that's not saying there aren't any though, especially elsewhere in the world.
