  • it's actually recommended that you stay under 300 mg of caffeine a day. a 20 oz pepsi contains 63 mg.

if you are used to drinking caffeine daily and you try to just stop completely, it will cause migraines which there is nothing you can do for other than drink some caffeine.
That's what happened my first pregnancy, after a week of aweful headaches, I went to just 1 20oz a day, with some coffee occassionally.

about all you may risk with caffeine is a very awake fetus while you are trying to sleep LOL

  • Actually, caffeine causes problems for the fetus, even small amounts like in one can of Coke. It can cause low birth weight and slower brain development. Even chocolate has caffeine in it and so do more than 60 plants that many people consume as vitamins or different spices. These add up and cause a lot of problems. Caffeine also pulls calcium from our bones and your baby's bones. It acts as a diuretic and pulls the fluids away from you and can reduce amniotic fluids as well. Check out the following website for more information but stay away from any type of caffeine while pregnant. http://www.essortment.com/all/caffeinepregnan_rfgc.htm

  • Personal experiences are like spandex outifts. They don't work for everyone and are better left in the closet.

My point is, go with the medical professionals on this one rather than the people who drank caffeine and "my kids are fine" ("fine" is in the eye of the beholder mind you). Caffeine consumption during pregnancy is not recommended. Caffeine is an addictive substance and is linked to a miriad of unwanted outcomes that were already mentioned. It is also a harsh stimulant to the adrenal glands and can cause mood problems and problems with your weight. It's best that NO ONE drink an excess of caffeine (or any caffeine at all) pregnant or not.
