What would happen if ALL the states decided to secede the Union? Where would your support be? Old union or new?

We could set up new using the original constitution. We will toss all the junk, leaving the important stuff like the woman's right to vote and abolishment of slavery....

There is actually talk of secession in many states. You can say it is just talk, but the secession of the southern states started with talk.

  • I don't understand. If ALL the states seceeded, how would anybody know? Wouldn't that just be the same thing? Maybe to do that we just need to fire everybody in the government and start over?

  • I think a secession is the dumbest idea to throw around. If we were all a bunch of little bitty countries, don't you think South Korea or Russia...someone, would take us over. Please does Delaware really have a chance against all of China. Even if we formed a new US, we'd be the weakest country again, have more debt.... Don't these idiots remember their history class. Where are the historians, aren't they supposed to be informing people of the past and why things are better now.

Born and raised in the South, but secession supporters are morons, I'd totally stick with the old Union. They won the war all of you ignorant Southerners that still wave the Confederate flag. You lost suckers, get over it, burn your darn flag.

  • It would essentially be a way of starting over. We just wouldn't have to recreate a constitution and such. States would have to get their own affairs together, but think, you aren't going to have a federal income tax!

Honestly, all the feds should be responsible for is the military. Each state could pay something on a per capita basis. The DC folks would only need to meet on an annual or maybe even biannual basis. The president's role would be as the head of the country. Think of the billions that could be saved by just eliminating the funds spent on/for/by the people in DC. No need for health insurance, pensions, big salary and spending accounts. All the money paid in federal taxes would be kept in the pockets of the citizen.

  • Schools and roads are the first things people worry about. A lot of school funding is done by property taxes. Think of the money saved once the feds get their hands out of it. Honestly, how good are your roads?

The best thing would be is that if you don't like things, you could move to another state. Want gay marriage, move to a state that allows if. Don't want abortion, move to a state that doesn't allow it.

  • The bottom line is the government needs to be removed from the affairs of the people. Most things were left in the hands of the state by our founding fathers. They knew what would happen if the feds had control.

    Smart fellas, those founding fathers.

Obviously you didn't read the original post. There would be no old union if all the states seceded. It would be a new "old" union, just without the junk.

  • But the federal govt is important for regulation control, if the states get too much power over their own affairs, it'd be a mess. The founding fathers wanted the states to manage themselves but they still wanted them looked after. States by themselves are like little children , the federal govt is like big momma.
If one state had to maintain its own defense against other countries, don't you think they would need a military draft of all residents. Just like these idiots in TX, when you break away from USA, who's going to be fighting Mexico, you are, all by your lonesome. When all your people die, you're not going to have all the other thousands of troop support from USA, they'll just let Mexico rule you again.

And we would all be having battles over this or that. Different currency for each country. Passports just to cross the boarder. It would COST US MORE....Doh...snap out of the Homer Simpson moment folks..
