Trial Starts Monday in Suit Against Army Corps of Engineers for Katrina Flooding

This is crazy. Anyone who knows New Orleans knows how corrupt the people in charge of maintaining the levees are. This ENTIRE catastrophe AND the horror of the following weeks was directly the fault of the LOCAL politicians. Who, by the way, were voted BACK into office with help of the Bush bashing media. good job. Bottom line...the moochers that are STILL living inhotel rooms 3 yrs later need to be kicked out. now. And this lawsuit is going to cost MORE money that the goverment doesn't have!

Do YOU think these people should get Billions in damages? Are you from this area and familliar with that fact that NO is BELOW SEA LEVEL and no levee anywhere will EVER be flool proof?

  • The current suit, Robinson v. United States, focuses not on the failure of flood-control structures but on the damage caused by the Mississippi River Gulf Outlet, a navigation canal on the city’s east side.

In a 65-page order, Judge Duval concluded that internal corps documents suggested there were “substantial questions of fact with respect to the actions and inactions that followed the creation of the channel” that required airing in court.

  • MANY have moved on and are doing well, I would even venture to say most, but you still have the same leeches on the system sticking out a hand demanding more! They knew where the lived and the risks they live with. I wonder if the people of San Fran will do the same when the big one hits? And you don't see the people in the mid west feeding on the system EVERY year when the tornadoes destroy homes. This is a personal responsibility issue. These people have none.

  • maybe you should look into things before you think you know what you are talking about.
fema is no longer housing people for katrina...nor rita.
i am from lake charles, louisiana, and yes, when innocent people die for something that could be prevented, then yes, someone needs to pay consequences.
this lawsuit isn't all about $. it is about making an example of politicians who take bribes instead of doing their jobs.
and MOST of louisiana is below sea level. it doesn't mean WE DESERVE TO DIE BECAUSE WE LIVE HERE.

that is a very ignorant statement. how can you lump all people in one group like that? personal responsibility??? IT HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE, so how could anyone prepare for something unpredictable? i also notice that none of you are mentioning the cali wildfires or other disasters that FEMA is currently paying for.

alot of places are. and that's why there are levees, dear. it is up to the gov't to protect areas they wwish for people to live in. NOW when politicians aren't concerned with the BELOW SEA LEVEL areas they govern, then they should have to face charges for it. it is THEIR JOB TO PROTECT THE AREA.
