a tick bite....

my daughter had a tick on her! i didnt know until just a little bit ago, i freaked out, i cried she cried, my husband got it off all intact and it wasnt enlarged at all, it was still flat, i talk to the doc and she said look for a bullseye rash and keep track of her temp for two weeks, but is there anything else i should look for? and also i feel guilty because i think she was trying to get it off a couple hours ago but i thought she was just itchy, and now i feel like its my fault and i should have noticed it sooner.... any suggestions on how i can feel a little better, ive been crying for about and hour and a half now.

  • Oh this is so common. Don't beat yourself up. Look for the bullseye just in case and they'll treat her with antibiotics. It's okay, it happens and so for once you didn't take the "itchy" seriously. How could you know? Just be thankful you guys got it. No worries, Mom, it'll totally be fine.

  • don't blame yourself...ticks are sometimes very hard to see....yes, definitely look for a rash that will be the shape of the bottom of a can of soda and then spread pink on the outter and clear on the inner, warm to the touch, (may feel hot to her).....the rash is very noticible and there could be multiple rashes too. also, if she gets a headache, fever or a swollen lymph node under the arm or neck. if she gets any of these symptoms, take her to the doctors right away and get antibiotics!!! hope she doesn't get lyme disease...i have it and if left untreated can cause many health problems: neurological, nervous system, arthritis, meningitis, etc...don't want to scare least you already told the doctor and your husband removed the tick right away. She hopefully will be fine! Good luck!

  • oh, when going outside with her (in grass).... tuck her pants in her socks. if it's hot out...have her wear light colored clothing. ask your pediatrician what kind of bug repellent is safe for toddlers too.

  • thank you all, the doctor reassured me that since the head came out it and it was still alive once it was taken off then the chances are lower for her getting anything. and since it was still flat it hasnt started feeding which is also a good thing, but i still feel so guilty. it sucks, and the ped also said to you off theres one made especially for kids so. and today we just did the advantix on the puppy so that she doesnt get them and or bring the in or around my daughter. so ... but again thank you all.
