  • I'm not sure of the correct way either, but my little girl just gets one bowl of cereal a day for now. About an equivalent of 1-2 tbsp. We just started though.

  • When we first started, she was getting probably 2 tbsp of cereal once a day. Then after four days, we started mixing that with fruit. We did that once a day until she was 6 months old, then we added a second "meal" using one tub of fruit and one tub of veggies per day mixed with cereal for a thicker texture. Around 7 months, we added a baby finger food snack, like the puffs or yogurt melts. Then at 9 months, we introduced the dinner style baby foods, so she was getting fruit, veggie, and meal plus a finger food snack every day. We did a 6 oz bottle everytime she had a food and 8 oz bottles when she didn't. From 6 months, she was only taking 4 bottles a day. At about 7 months we started doing the stage 2, about 9-10 we did stage 3. 10-11 months, she was doing mostly table foods with her dinner still the stage 3. Before one year, she was completely off the baby food and was either doing table food or the gerber graduates.

  • For just starting out, she should still be taking mostly formula. If her consumption drops, you need to offer less babyfood. Her consumption should not markedly drop until you're giving table foods. (well, that's what our pediatrician told us)

Starting out, my boys were taking 45oz per day of formula on average. We started with a serving of cereal for breakfast, then added 1/2 jar of stage 2 veggie at supper two weeks later. After we ran through a few veggies, we added 1/2 jar of stage 2 fruit for lunch. Their formula consumption did not drop. (stage 2's were single ingredient, obviously) This was at 4 months.

At 6 months, they had worked up to taking the equivalent of TWO stage 2 jars per meal and their formula consumption dropped down to about 36-40oz per day. We also started offering finger and table foods at this age.

By the time they were 9 months they were completely on table foods...cont...

  • ...and I offered about a stage 2 jar's worth of each item we were eating. If they wanted more, I gave them a bit more.

They always took 8oz of formula per meal and for snacks until we started juice, then they had 8oz of 50/50 water/juice for two snacks per day (the last snack being about 1 hour before bed and formula)
