  • My daughter was 8 months when I stopped burping her. I stopped when I noticed her burping on her own.

  • When they are strong enough to burp by themselves. Usually when they become more mobile, they don't need to be burped as much.

  • When they can really control their bodies better (roll over, squirm around) they do a better job getting the gas out on their own. My daughter is 7 months and I still put her upright and give her a few pats after I feed her, but I don't necessarily wait for a burp, and haven't for a couple of months now.

  • I stopped burping my daughter between 2-3 months I think. She was EBF. I noticed that whenever I tried to burp her, she'd spit up, but if I didn't bother, she'd burp a few minutes later usually. Especially when we sat her up, the burp would usually come right out.

  • I noticed with my little one when he was still tiny that just putting him in a sitting position (very straight) worked even better - and he never spit up..
Sometimes all that patting and rubbing is more like forcing it..

  • I stopped when they started burping by themselves. It was before 6 months because that's when we put them on a sippy cup, but I don't remember exactly.
