Rent a big umbrella if you don't have one and keep your baby covered most of the time, sunhat at all times and reapply sunscreen regularly. Remember you can get sunburned even in the shade because of the reflection off the sand. Take lots of water, take lots of breaks. My daughter absolutely loved playing in the sand at 13 months with a bucket and shovel. But be prepared for a mess. Have fun!
You might also buy a little tent. We had one for our son and he could nap in the shade and avoid any blowing sand. Just get one that has pockets in the bottom to put sand to keep it from blowing away. Ours was big enough to allow us to change him in it but packed up very small and flat. Enjoy!

There are these little tents just for the beach thata works wonderful, provides UVA sunsheild and a place to keep everything if your little one wants to play in the water. take plenty of swim diapers, bottles of water, and keep a change of clothes in the car (snad gets everwhere). use water and sweat resistance sunscreen and make sure its rubbed in well (leaving some places white with sunscreen can cause burning). Apply sunscreen all over ( during the diaper change at home before heading out to ensure all areas are covered) .
