Would you trust a car seat from craigslist?

I see them advertised all the time, but there is no way to know if they have been in a wreck or not and I understand that if they have been in a wreck you shouldn't use them again because they are not as safe. What do you think?

  • I wouldn't. Most of the seats on there look gross and expired. If you go to WIC or a car seat technician they sometimes have programs where you can qualify for a low cost or free seat.

  • I would NEVER buy from craigs list. I wouldn't put my baby's safety in the hands of a stranger who wants to sell you something.

  • I asked my doctor about car seats that have been in wrecks. He said, as long as you don't see any damage-any cracks or anything, then they are fine. They are just like a seatbelt. I would buy one off of craigslist if I've carefully looked it over and nothing seems wrong.

  • Absolutely not. And, I would not take car seat advice from my doctor, unless he was a CPST. There's a saying, Asking the pediatrician about carseats is like asking the butcher about broccoli.
