Need help with WIC

I noticed that on my wic checks it says dry cereal......what all qualifies? They gave me an approved food list but they only list the cereal under cold and hot. Can I only get regular cereal or cream of wheat and stuff like that?

  • It usually is labeled on the shelf, but some stores are different. I would ask someone who works there. Some people can be real a-holes about WIC checks so as soon as you get to the checkout tell the person this is a WIC purchase. Don't let them be rude to you, you are still a customer. The office should have given you the approved list of items.

  • O and Cream of Wheat the 10, 2 1/2, or 1 min or Instant Original only

Some stores don't label it in the aisle (ours don't) and yes you have to inform the cashier before she starts ringing it up bc they have to enter a special code.

  • It should tell you specifically what brands/flavors you can get. For example, for the first 6 months my cereal checks said on them
Women's Cereal (as opposed to childrens cereal - they get different choices)
    Total 36oz of cereal
Then it listed the types I could get like theheartbaby listed above.

  • Man I envy you theheartbaby because you can get brand name stuff. In Virginia we can only get the generic store cereal. I know, beggers can't be choosers, but it took a while to get used to the generics. And there's still only two brands my kids will eat!! Sorry to go off topic..

  • we can only get 4 types of juice in VA--frozen concentrate orange, apple, pineapple, grapefruit. I don't know too many kids who like grapefruit or pineapple juice. I would think those would be too acidic.
