It's official... I have become my mother. Now I need help, please?

Thanks to those who encouraged me to see the doctor today. I did and I'm glad I did. Been sick for a long time.... AND my diagnosis of PCOS... may not be so after all.... long and short, the PA diagnosed the PCOS.... the doctors says... may not be the case at all. Here's what he found. Very high cholesterol - 262. Low thyroid, low progesterone, low levels of serotonin and melatonin. He's put me on Cymbalta, Vytorin and Synthiroid. He's says he won't rule out hysterectomy, but he wants to try and jump start my stuff before we consider that. So, I got meds. Great, I hope I feel better soon... but I gotta change my diet. I don't even know where to start on a cholesterol diet.... y'all help?? What is a cholesterol diet and how do you get started? And what do you do with the groceries already in the house... don't say throw them out; you've seen the price of groceries.

  • I have have triclricides (sp is wrong). My doc said low fat, high fiber. Oatmeal and cheerios help lower cholesterol. I have a 10 page list of foods that I should and shouldn't eat, the serving sizes, etc. I also need to exercise. Exercise helps keep cholesterol low.

  • Saturated fats seem to need to be avoided. Fatty meat.

Olive oil is good. Certain fish- such as salmon, are good.
