We just got a new puppy...

I believe she is mini pinscher/chiuahua mix. She is 8 weeks old and adorable! She hasnt had any of her shots or anything yet though. But what im wondering is if its normal-she Sleeps ALOT. and how can you tell if shes got tapeworm? I think she might, and can my son catch it if she does? Ive never had a puppy before, so im really not sure about all this lol any advise?

  • Puppies are like babies. They do sleep a lot. This would not be an indication of worms. Usually, if they have worms they will eat grass and scoot their bottoms on the ground often. Your son wouldn't catch tape worms. He'd have to eat the dog poop!

  • Tape worms will physically leave the body of the dog in segments, you will sometimes find segments of the worm in her bed or hanging from her rectum. Your children can get tapeworms from your dog and round worms and pinworms. The round worms are more worrisome because they eventually go to the heart to live and kill the dog or make her anemic enough to be not treatable. Get your puppy wormed by the vet and not over the counter remedies on a regular basis. You can now get a pill for your dog monthly that treats mange, fleas, ticks and all worms and heartworms. Good luck momma!
