Do you give your kids lunch before or after naptime?

Naptime normally comes 3-4 hours after waking up in the morning so you figure about 2-3 hours after breakfast because my kids won't eat right when they wake up. I normally give them lunch after naps which is between 1 and 2. But sometimes they sleep longer than two hours and then I feel bad that their lunch is so late, but if I try to feed them before naps most of the time they waste it.
What do you do?

  • I give my kids lunch after naps and that is only because I lay them down at 10am and the reason I lay them down so early is because it gets me at least 3 hours to get them to even take a nap so I feed mine when they wake up after nap which is ually 1 or 1:30

  • I feed my ds a lite snack before bed, like apple or graham crackers. Then, after nap, he gets his lunch! This way, he doesn't go too long without food!

  • my son's naps always vary since he doesnt always wake up at the same time. but I usually feed him lunch after he wakes up from his first nap. sometimes he does wake up later than normal, and his lunch is late, but keep in mind that the solids before 1 are only for practice and if a meal is skipped it isnt that big of a deal as long as he is getting enough breastmilk/formula for the day. or if not a lunch, you can always just offer a big healthy snack then serve dinner at the normal time.

  • we eat BF at 9am when the kids I nanny get here. we play for awhile maybe do a craft I make lunch while they play, we eat at 11 am, they nap at 12pm. wake at 2-3 om, have snack play, I fix dinner, eat at 5-6pm, kids leave, my son goes to bed at 8 pm. I fully believe you need time for your food to settle before sleeping or you will gain extra weight from not burning calories.

    mid-morning, snack
    11:30 or noon...Lunch
    nap
mid-afternoon, snack (they usually only napped around 2-2 1/2 hours)

  • It used to be after since she went down for her nap around 11. But I've been shifting her nap time later (hoping for 12:30) so now, I'm giving her lunch before. I did make sure she had a small snack before nap though - apple slices, toast with jam, something semi-good for her.

I always figured, if she was asleep, then she didn't care that lunch was late. And like yours - if she is super tired, she won't eat at all.
