  • lol @ the first response- it's "contrary to popular belief". And what exactly are you talking about? lol...anyway, OP, conception occurs within hours of ovulation if there is sperm in the female's body, then implantation happens 6-8 days after conception. Hormone levels won't be high enough to show in urine until near the time of your next expected period , usually an average of 14 days after ovulation. I believe the statistic is that there is only a 20% chance of conception each cycle. That may be wrong though.

  • Hi OP

I read the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler and it helped me to understand the whole process a lot better. Fertilization takes place within a few hours of ovulation, but the woman normally produces "fertile fluid" in the 3-5 days leading up to ovulation and the cervix opens a little. If intercourse takes place during that fertile time, the sperm can survive to fertilize the egg once it's released. So, it's possible to have intercourse and not actually conceive until days later. (My good friend learned this when she was trying the Rhythm Method for birth control. She got pg somewhere between 3 and 5 days after she and her DH made love.)
