my son has mild autism and time outs dont work what to do.

  • Have you spoken to a child behavior teacher to see what you can do? Is he in any type of class yet? They need positive correction and redirection. Possibly take away the tv or a toy for a little bit instead of time out.

  • My parents have the same problem with my brother. They mostly have to use redirection with him as time out is totally ineffective. Also realise that a behavior which doesnt stop even when he is punished may be out of his control. Children with autism sometimes act out behaviors as a result of nervousness or sensory over stimulation.
