Would you consider someone who doesnt put shoes on their infants feet a bad mother?

I know I wouldnt, they arent supposed to wear shoes until they are walking. I just bought my DD a pair because she is 11 months old and I feel like they might help her stabilize herself. Am I wrong?

  • My kids always wore shoes from day one. (well, okay...day 2 when we went home from the hospital) If we went out, they had shoes on. But that was US.

They're not supposed to wear shoes as they're learning to walk. They should be barefoot so they can use their toes for balance.

Once they are walking OUTSIDE...then they need to have shoes on for protection. But shoes "for walking" are never necessary and not recommended.

  • My boys never wore shoes until they were walking, and then only outside. I wasn't going to spend money on something they didn't use. Now my daughter wears shoes, but only because we received SO many pairs as gifts!

  • nope, my daughter didn't wear shoes til she started walking. she took them off if i tried and there was just no point anyways since someone carried her or she was in a stroller.

  • I feel weird taking my daughter out in public without shoes...I feel like people are thinking I'm too lazy to put a pair of shoes on her! I'd prefer it if she didn't wear any, and she certainly could care less (she's 10 mos old). so to answer your question, no.

  • No I don't consider them a bad mother, it's there baby and their choice. Our baby wears Robeez there 100% soft leather and they don't fall off and she can't kick them off.

  • I wont take mine outside without shoes on. It only bothers me when I see women who have their babies in bare feet out in public. They dont have to have shoes on, but I hate seeing bare little piggies that could be freezing! lol

  • My daughter who was born on Memorial Day didn't wear shoes outside of the house until she was 11 months and walking at the park. Before walking you can do soft shoes if you want to spend the money... I don't see why it would reflect on a bad mother not to put shoes on when they're unnecessary...
