Has anybody done the perineal massage??

Just curious and did it help to reduce the incidence of episiotomy and perineal tears during childbirth.

  • The perineal massage IS helpful! What is needed is a hot wash cloth applied to perineal right before head pops out. When the perineal is soft enough your doctor will stretch the perineal(not comfortable, but bearable) so that the head will NOT rip or tear that area! My 5 yr old was 8.2 lbs at birth. After the stretching I pushed that hefty baby out in 3 pushes, no rips tears or skid marks! Bottom line your body your choice, but its benefitial!!!
