How do you feel when a man refers to his dw as "the wife"?

So your guy is taking to his friends and he says something like the wife is mad at me. Or >>>The wife just had a baby. Or>>>How is the wife?

Do you mind when men depersonalize it when speaking about you.
If you do or don't...why? And why do you think they do it?

  • It's better than 'old lady.'

Answer by MommyDumDum at 10:02 PM on Apr. 27, 2009

  • No..because I would be his wife. It's the same thing as saying My husband works at the car place or me and my husband are in a fight.

  • ya i'd be upset if it was "my old lady" or "my ball and chain" but the wife, is the same as like sarapurser said, saying my husband or something along those lines.

  • It doesn't bother me at all, my Dh calls me "Wife" sometimes and it is just sweet. I call him Husband. "The wife" isn't as sweet, but still wouldn't bother me. "The old ball and chain" would drive me bats, unless it was somehow part of a running joke of ours. Which some very odd things are..... LOL

  • same reason they say "I'll meet you at the Walmart"

Answer by admckenzie at 10:35 PM on Apr. 27, 2009

  • I wouldn't mind it. It's not rude or belittleling like some of the other names mentioned. To my knowledge, my dh refers to me by my name when speaking to others...
