how to fix credit report?

i just got off the phone with a lender that was very helpful. but we are twenty points away from being able to buy a home cuz of our credit report. how can we fix that?

  • What you DON'T do is cancel any credit cards you already have. Id say start using one credit card to buy your gas and groceries... and pay it all off when the bill is due.

  • Pay off all the small bills you have. Make sure you don't have more than 40% of your credit card limit used on any given card. Do not get your credit checked for awhile, unless you do it yourself. Make sure all bills are current and pay over on them each month instead of what is owed. Every little thing helps. Don't get anymore credit cards or run up any more bills. Each time your credit is checked it takes you down points so avoid that like the pelage .

  • you have no credit cards?? I would go out and get ONE. I have a good credit score already cause I've been using credit cards since the day I turned 18.. when I went to buy my car my credit score was only a few points less then my husbands and he's had student loans and a credit card.. and hes 2 yrs older then me

  • You need to make sure the balance on the credit cards are 1/2 of what they have allowed you in credit. If your card is for $1000, you want your balance to be less than $500. That brings the score up. I takes months for the score to change too.
