What is Greek yogurt?

It's in a recipe for beef gyros. I bought plain yogurt because I couldn't find Greek. It's to make the gyro sauce with cucumber, dill & salt. Do you think I'll be all right? Any suggestions?

  • You'll be OK. It will be less thick is all. Greek yogurt has a wonderful creamy texture, denser than the yogurt we get in the US. Some stores carry it. Where I've found it, it is much more expensive than other yogurt, but the texture is dreamy.

  • If you drain the regular yogurt in cheesecloth it might be closer to Greek yogurt.
