Why is it ok to legally divorce...?

So if the bible states it's ok to divorce for adultery, and only for adultery, why aren't the right wingers fighting to stop divorce for any other reason than adultery, I mean, we have to save the "sanctity of marriage", right?
The law states you can get divorced for any reason, well that goes against the Christian beliefs and the bible. Why are we allowing this?!?!?!
This is going to ruin your marriages!

  • If it wasn't for divorce, I wouldn't have married the man that GOD brought into my life. No, there is NOTHING wrong with a divorce if it's for the right reasons.

If you go into a marriage thinking "oh, it's okay, I can always get a divorce later" then you probably aren't with the right person and shouldn't be married to begin with, IMO. But if you go into it with forever on your mind and something happens - an affair, abuse, or other lies/betrayal - then there is nothing wrong with getting yourself out of a bad and miserable situation.

And BTW, homosexuality is NOT ruining the sanctity of marriage, thank you very much. It's none of your business who ANYONE wants to marry, and it CERTAINLY isn't the governments.

  • Because the country/world is getting farther and farther away from the bible.

  • While I agree that sometimes people find it easier to divorce than to work on a marriage, but a marriage has to be worked upon by both parties. Sometimes there is abuse, and NO person should stay in a marraige where there is abuse, EVER. And like I said, if both parties don't try to work out their marriage issues and change, there is NO point in staying in that marriage, life is too short to be miserable

  • Well that would be an easy 1 if we all lived by the bible. It would be nice if the ONLY mistake someone in a marriage could make was cheating but unfortunately that is not the case. Now we have to worry about physical and/or sexual abuse in a marriage or family situation, addictions to drugs, alcohol, or porn and a whole mess of other shit. And in my opinion, God would want those people to get out of the marriage for the sake of themselves and for their family.

  • It has nothing to do with the law not coinciding with the Bible. That's not why this country was created. It has more to do with the fact that Christians are so judgemental and hypocritical that they are driving people away from Jesus. Christians are supposed to set examples not judge, criticize and ridicule. Maybe too many "christians" aren't really christians afterall?

but you can't say for sure that that's what God would want, now can you? If it's not in the bible, you just can't do that....

  • Because the people that say so are all a bunch of hypocrites, that's why. They pick and choose what they want to adhere to and call it "fact" or "god's law" because it's in the bible, while anything they don't want to follow is "outdated" or "not to be taken so literally".
