When should I start giving my son a bath every night, instead of every other night?

When did you start giving your little one a bath every night? I know that it depends somewhat from child to child depending on their skin, since it can dry it out. My son has normal skin, and he ends up dirty EVERYDAY! I just wonder when it is normal to start? Also, my son is almost 10 months.

  • When he is dirty enough to need it... babies dont get very dirty so bathing too much will only dry out his skin...

  • I have given both my kids a bath every day since their umbilical cord fell off. I do a bath then a massage every night before bed. Their skin has never dried out. They have always loved the bath and it relaxes them before bed.

  • We started doing it every day whether they needed it or not when we were trying to establish a bedtime routine... around 4 months, I guess. No harm to their skin, and my girls didn't even need lotion. I just don't wash their hair every day -- every other day unless there's food or spitup or whatever in it.

  • I still dont give my older boys a bath everynight. They dont stink and arent dirty. I think it dries their skin out way too much to do it all the time. Also my middle son is allergic to a lot of soaps so we find his skin does better if we dont wash it every day.

  • My daughter is six months old and I still only bathe her once a week. She just doesn't get dirty enough to need that much washing. Plus she has a mild case of eczema, so I don't want to dry her skin out any more than I have to. Bathing your kid every day is just more work than you need to heap on to yourself before it's needed.
