  • yep, saw that this morning on the news. They don't want people freaking out over pork since it's still safe to eat.

egypt slaughtered 300,000 pigs today as a precaution!

  • Yes I knew that. They didn't want the pork industry to suffer.

  • So it's no longer the "swine-made disaster?" Would that be an effort to "sugar coat" the issue so businesses that process and/or produce pork products don't fail?!

  • They didn't change the name. Swine flu is more of a nickname. H1N1 virus is the technical term.

  • THey have a name like that for Bird Flu too don't they?

They should have thought of something more catchy than H1N1. Swine Flu is going to stick I'm afraid.

  • It's not sugar coating anything. You really can't get the swine flu from eating pork if it's cooking properly.

  • Yes the Avian Flu (bird flu) is H5N1. "Swine flu" is the nickname for H1N1. This is actually not 100% a swine flu, it is a combination of swine, avian, and human flu. So calling it H1N1 is not "changing the name" of it, it just doesn't put as much emphasis on pork. Which is safe to eat if properly cooked like anon above said.

  • Anon 5:24 You can't get swine flu from pork period. You could eat it raw and you won't get swine flu. Though you might get triganosis...
