  • After reading the blog, the DHS is setting guidelines for the rules regarding quarantine (and nothing else) for a couple of reasons. One, since this is related to/spreading in countries other than the US, DHS would automatically have juristiction over boarder control/quarantine. Two, while the CDC is the main source for public health information and policy regulation, they may not be ready to deal with the magnitude of this pandemic. Yes, it still has yet to reach even regular-flu related death numbers, but the speed and spread of the disease is fairly unique at this point in time. (Days as opposed to a whole flu 'season' and various gaping concentrated spots of illness in states that aren't connected). And, the fact that quarantines may be enacted can raise several civil liberty issues (as stated in the blog) and that is not something the CDC is meant to handle. Is a pre-emptive authorization in case its needed.

  • they are setting guidelines for a federally mandated quarintine. since it is federally mandated than i would assume that has to come from some form of the federal gov. the article also says they are getting the assistance of the CDC in determining how to decide if quarintine is neccesary.

  • The swine flu is... a terrorist......?

DHS should have nothing to do with it. CDC is what I'd figure to be the group qualified to handle such things, including quarantine. CDC should be getting the assistance of DHS, not vise versa.

  • DHS is feeling a little out of the spotlight lately?

  • If DHS is involved that means that they have the right to force quarantines, and even make vaccination mandatory for everyone if they want to. Vaccination is something that is considered a Homeland Security thing for legal reasons. That way the gov. can force people to do it and not have any legal liability for the vaccine reactions.

    This is kinda scary.

  • I mean the fact that DHS is involved, not the swine flu. The gov. scares me more than the germ.
