My eight week old will nurse for two hours straight at night.

Usually after midnight he will latch on and nurse, sometimes just sucking, sometimes actually eating, but if you take him off for more than a minute he starts screaming and he usually NEVER screams. We'll stay up for hours doing this. I tried to give him the pacifier. He stopped taking it after a month old, though. Does your infant do this?

  • My DD did that for a while...felt like she was a growth off my boob for a while but she did grow out of I think she just wakes up to nurse for a few minutes b/c Im right next to her as we also co-sleep...but just hang in there mama, he'll stop soon. Enjoy it while he's so little. I hardly remember anymore when my DD was 8 weeks. Shes 8 MONTHS now!!

  • He's using you as a human paci. After about 15 - 20 after started feed he's sucking colostrum or nothing depending on your calorie intake. Try reintroducing paci's shaped like your nipple!

  • I've tried all sorts of pacifiers. He won't take any of them anymore.

  • Bring him in bed with you and nurse lying down. That way you can nurse him and sleep at the same time. For info on sleeping safely with your baby go to Should I sleep with my baby?

  • We do already co-sleep and often try that method. He just falls off after drifting to sleep and wakes up screaming. hahaha I seem to have a picky night time baby.

  • He should get over it. My daughter did that when she was very new and eventually stopped. She is eight weeks now and eats every 2 hours or 1.5 hrs. It drives me nuts. We co-sleep but I can barely sleep with her being so noisy while she eats. Maybe try feeding him more often during the day. Don't let him go longer than 3 hrs. without eating during the day, that's what my doc. told me.
