Weight limit for most infant car seats?

I bought my car seat from a garage sale. Its in perfect condition, so I wasn't really worried to much on buying a used one, but I am just curious as to what the weight limit is on one. I think that it is 20 lbs, but not sure? Its graco brand. If 20 lbs is the limit I will have to be looking for a new car seat soon. My soon to be 4 month old weighs just under 18lbs...thanks for any advice! :)

  • If it's a graco snugseat, I think it's 20 lbs, graco safeseat is 30 lbs but you can google it, I'm sure. Check the date and make sure it hasn't been recalled, while you're at it!

  • 25-35 lbs. on the base is the model number and other information, go to graco's website and do a search for the model info and you can get the manual on it that way. if you do have to go up, than try to get a converter one that way you don't have to buy a new one when its time to go forward facing, we had to get a new seat when my daughter was 9 months old and got the one that converts to forward facing, shes 3 and just now about to grow out of it

  • Yes it's usually around 22 lbs but since you don't know I would go with 20 lbs to be safe.
You'll need a convertible seat (get a new one this time... it's really not safe to get used no matter how nice it looks, you never know what the original owner may have done with it unless it's a family member)
They make a wide range of seats from around $50 for a Cosco Scenera all the way up to something like the Britax for around $300.... We got the Evenflo Triumph Advance for around $120 each

  • They vary between 20 and 30 lbs, depending on which Graco seat it is.

  • At 20lbs. I would go get a convertable seat. I love the Evenflo Triumph Advance. I just bought it. Make sure to rear face until 2yrs/35 lbs.
